A few days ago, it was reported that suspended Florida Gators wide receiver Antonio Callaway was signing with an agent and declaring for the NFL Draft. Plenty of Florida fans were pleased with this news due to all the trouble Callaway kept getting in. With him gone, many have started to wonder about the status of running back Jordan Scarlett.. As many of you know, Scarlett got caught up in the credit card fraud scheme which caused him to miss the entire season. With that being said, what should head coach Dan Mullen do with Scarlett?
With Scarlett missing the season, other players got a chance to show what they can do. Going into spring ball, Malik Davis should be number one on the depth chart followed by Lamical Perine, and Adarius Lemons. Davis, specifically has shown that he has the potential to be an All SEC type running back. If Mullen allows Scarlett to return, he would have to work his way back to the top of the depth chart. Even though Scarlett is very good, it’s going to be tough to make his way back to the top.
When it comes to deciding if Scarlett should be allowed back, Mullen should ask himself one thing. Is bringing him back worth it? Mullen is trying to change the culture and thought process in Gainesville, so cutting Scarlett would send a direct message to his team that this kind of stuff won’t be tolerated. If I was Mullen, I would tell Scarlett to starting preparing for the NFL Draft and that the Gators are moving on without him.
